OUR STORY
During the pandemic lockdown, my 80-year old mother won big in a lucky draw. She excitedly gave her bank account details to the caller, anticipating to receive the winnings. Instead, her bank accounts were emptied out. The shock accelerated her dementia and left her depressed.
My name is Frances Yong. I was a senior risk executive with leadership roles in multi-risk types including fraud, financial crime and cybercrime risk management. Despite being an experienced professional who educated others in scam prevention, I couldn’t prevent scam from happening to my mother. Something had to change. I left my professional employment and White Byte was born.
White Byte was set-up to spread awareness of cybercrime and online harm prevention. Fortifying my background in fraud and cybercrime risk management, I acquired new knowledge in relevant law and psychology modules to provide a more holistic coverage of online crime. Now, I am a public speaker and educator in cyber integrity, cyber psychology and digital literacy.
With the support of volunteers, White Byte helps adults help their less digital savvy aging parents, and parents connect with their hyper-exposed digital native children. We are especially passionate in raising awareness in underserved communities where such education is limited. We also consult on risk management strategies for companies to embed a cyber-safe culture.
White Byte connects communities and professionals in the fight against cybercrime locally and abroad. Through awareness, education and dialogues, we promote the vision of a safe and inclusive cyber community. The journey has been heartening but the fight against cybercrime is far from the finish line.
There's more to be done, and it's a journey of partnership and collaboration. We look forward to creating a safer cyber ecosystem with you.
